How it works

1

Describe the job

Material, quantity, timeline, and your drawings, models or photos if you have them. It takes a couple of minutes.

2

We match you locally

Your request goes to independent Pittsburgh-area shops whose equipment and experience fit the work.

3

Compare and decide

Shops contact you directly with questions, pricing and lead times. You choose who to work with.

Pittsburgh still makes things

Steel built Pittsburgh, and the region's metalworking skills never left. Hundreds of job shops across Allegheny County and the surrounding counties cut, bend, weld and machine parts for mills, energy and pipeline companies, robotics startups, hospitals and universities, contractors and homeowners. Finding the right shop is the hard part. One is set up for heavy plate and structural work, another for tight-tolerance CNC parts, another for stainless TIG welding or a single custom railing.

The fastest way to get a real number is a clear request: what it is, what it's made of, how many you need, and by when. Attach drawings or models if you have them, mention any certifications or inspection requirements, and say whether you'll pick up, need delivery, or need someone on site.

Fabrication & machining FAQ

Are you a fabrication or machine shop?

No. Pittsburgh Fabrication is a free quote-matching service. We pass your request to independent local fabrication and machine shops that do the type of work you describe. Any work, pricing and terms are agreed directly between you and the shop.

What should I include to get an accurate quote?

A drawing or 3D model if you have one (PDF, STEP, DXF, DWG and similar), the material and thickness, the quantity, any tolerances or finish, and when you need the parts. If you only have a sketch, photo or broken part, describe it, and the shop will tell you what else it needs.

Can I request an NDA before sharing drawings?

Yes. Check the NDA box and describe the job in general terms. A shop can sign your NDA before you send detailed drawings.

Can I upload ITAR or export-controlled drawings?

No. Please don't upload ITAR, EAR or other export-controlled technical data through this site. Describe the job in general terms instead, and you'll be connected with a shop that can handle controlled data through proper channels.

Do you handle one-off and small jobs?

Yes. Prototypes, repairs, single railings and short runs are all welcome. Just be clear about the quantity and timeline so you're matched with a shop that wants that size of job.

How much does custom fabrication cost?

It depends on material, labor hours, setup, finish and quantity. A simple bracket might cost tens of dollars each in volume, while a platform or equipment skid can run into the thousands. Shops can only give real pricing after seeing your drawings or details, which is why the form asks for them.

What areas do you cover?

Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, plus Butler, Beaver, Washington and Westmoreland counties. Many shops also ship parts anywhere, so you can still submit if you're outside the area.
